Why Johnny Depp is my hero, and always will be.

In the last few years there has been a lot of controversy regarding Johnny Depp, people have been trying to convince me why I shouldn’t like him. They say he’s a drunk and that he is a wife beater. I in no way condone this type of behaviour, and truly hope that these allegations are not true. The truth is I don’t know and to be perfectly honest nobody does, we have taken sides and allegiance to whom we believe is telling the truth. However none of us really know or understand the situation.

I’ve been a Johnny Depp fan since I was in high-school and I saw “The Pirates of The Caribbean.” When I first saw this movie I was amazed at how adventurous it was and knew that I wanted to be an actor like the main character Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). I started making my own films with friends and loved acting. I can honestly say I started acting because of Johnny Depp. I went to Sheridan College and studied media arts there, all the while I starred in around 30 short films. My friends would tell me you remind me of Johnny Depp, and I took that as the ultimate compliment because in my opinion he was one of the greatest actors of all time.

The way he could immerse himself within a character and transform into them. He got me reading Stanislavski and method acting, which made me a better performer. I got into entertainers like Marlon Brando because of Johnny, who both stand up for Native American rights. I being a Native American myself feel honoured and privileged to be apart of this movement to help raise awareness for our people.

Johnny Depp made it ok to be weird, which helped me a lot in my youth. I was able to be different without being ridiculed by my peers because it was cool to be strange because of Johnny. Everybody is unique in their own way and what we classify as normal is really just not attainable by the majority of the populous because we are individuals.

Johnny Depp inspires me, he is the reason I am motivated to be a better person and to be proud of my heritage. He got me into Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Kerouac who are two of the greatest writers to grace us with their works. People say his movies have tanked and that he is washed up, what I have to say to those people is you never really truly understood Johnny or his work. You were his fan when he was successful but a true fan is their through all the ups and downs. To be honest those movies you say are awful I love. It’s because I am a true fan and will always be there for J-Depp. Don’t judge people based on rumours, I’ll leave you with something that touched my heart and I hope touches yours.
